Call for Members

SAP Space is a unique project space in Neukölln that includes a stand-alone building as well as the garden surrounding it. It was founded in 2022 by Ilyn Wong and Johannes Knall, and the programming has been directed by Ilyn, who has curates some of the exhibitions or has otherwise supported outside curators and organizers.

SAP Space is in the process of transforming into collective project, and is currently looking for members — artists, curators, or anyone whose work aligns with the ethos of SAP Space, which thinks about the garden as an expanded topic. If you’re unfamiliar with our work, please have a look at our past projects.

To apply, please send us a short email about yourself and your interests at sapspaceberlin@gmail.com

Whom we’re looking for:

  • Members who are able to contribute a monthly membership fee (around 75 €, depending on how many members make up the collective) for a minimum of one year starting March, 2026, or thereabouts.

  • People who have a genuine interest in thinking about the garden as a conceptual framework. SAP Space projects are just as interested in the garden as an abstraction as they are in the physicality of the garden. Having said that, it would definitely be a plus if you are also into gardening.

  • People who want to collaborate and work together, who will be willing to help out other members even if you are not directly involved in a specific project. Flexibility would be great; a positive attitude is imperative.

  • Members who are willing and able to share admin duties of running a project space.

  • Members do not necessarily need to live in Berlin, but should be here either regularly, or are able to contribute to the collective remotely.

What you should know about us and the space:

  • SAP Space is a curatorial and experimental platform, which means that it is not really about members showing their own work, but rather about members using the space to explore ideas and interests. These projects can be both art- and non-art-related.

  • Opportunities to show our own work will present itself in an annual members’ show as well as projects that take place outside of SAP Space. For example, this year, we are participating in Juxtapose Art Fair in Aarhus as well as the BLAM Festival in Mexico City. With more members and more bandwidth, we can propose exchanges with other spaces and even participate in fairs both here and abroad.

  • The working language is English.

What you will get:

  • Members will be able to sign up for slots to host exhibitions and/or events in the garden as well as in the project space.

  • Use of the garden to grow plants!

  • The opportunity to shape the future of SAP Space.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at sapspaceberlin@gmail.com!
